New York’s Large Sports Venues Will Reopen

After a long and protracted ban on attendance to large sports venues caused by the spread of the pervasive COVID-19 virus, New York-City Mayor Andrew Cuomo called for their effective reopening, if only at 10% of their full capacity.

Wednesday’s announcement will allow avid sports fans to attend their favorite events in New York’s top arenas, including the Nets’ own stadium Barclay’s Center, Madison Square Garden and the world-famous Yankee Stadium, as long as the attendees adhere to the measures introduced by the New York Department of Health that include the mandatory use of face-masks, temperature checks and the presentation of the results of a COVID-19 test made within the previous 72 hours.

New York City and many other major urban centers across the US have been dealing with a resurgence of COVID-19 cases during the last couple of months, forcing many state authorities to implement novel restrictions pertaining to public gatherings of large numbers with large sports venues included.

This new softening to New York’s very-tough regulations also comes to appease the city’s suffering entertainment industry, which has been severely affected financially by the pandemic. As per Cuomo’s Tweet from early Wednesday, New York reported a total of 7,593 active hospitalizations and 7,101 diagnoses, by the end of Tuesday.
