-The NHL announced Tuesday that Washington Capitals’ forward Tom Wilson was fined $5000, after effecting violence upon NY Rangers’ Pavel Buchnevich during Monday’s match.

-Wilson also allegedly injured Artemi Panarin during the ensuing altercation.

-Panarin will miss the last three games of the NHL season.

Brawls do sometimes follow scrums!

According to a report issued this morning by the folks at ESPN, the NHL’s Department of Players’ Safety confirmed the application of a $5000 fine onto Washington Capitals player Tom Wilson. The Caps forward punched New York Rangers’ Pavel Buchnevich in the head following a scrum during Monday evening’s match between both ensembles.

The violence quickly escalated, leading to a full-fledged brawl that also resulted in Wilson throwing Artemi Panarin down on the ice, though Wilson received no additional admonishments for the second instance.

Panarin did not return for the ensuing third period of the game, which the Rangers lost to the Capitals with a score of 6-3 goals.

No Respect for the Game!

The violent incident soon drew the derision of other fellow players, as was the case of Rangers center Mika Zibanejad: “I figure you should have more respect for the game & for the players… It’s just horrible. Zero respect. I don’t know why I’m surprised. It’s just horrible.”

Rangers coach David Quinn seconded Zibanejad’s opinion: “We all saw it. There are lines that can’t be coressed in the game. There’s just zero respect for the game in general. You got one of the star players in this league now that could have gotten seriously, seriously hurt in that incident. You all saw what happened, and it happens time and time again with Wilson. Totally unnecessary.”

Immediately after the altercation, Wilson was thrown in a double minor fault over “roughing” and a forced ‘misconduct’ stoppage of a mere 10 minutes’ length, which did allow him to finish his game with his Capitals’ team.

Rangers and Caps will see faces again this coming Wednesday night.
